At Menston Preschool we believe that every child is an individual with the potential to develop and meet their maximum potential. Our designated SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) has a passion for promoting equal opportunities for every child and is responsible for making sure all children enjoy a positive learning experience with us and receive the support they need. At the heart of any decision making is a child’s parents/carers. We appreciate and value their involvement and believe their insight should be used to inform any decisions made throughout a child’s time in our setting. We want all children to thrive at Menston Preschool and for families to feel supported.
Our SENCO works closely with parents and colleagues to support and advise them to identify and meet the specific needs of children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). They will also liaise with outside agencies and other professionals to ensure that everyone is coordinated in how they support a child’s individual needs.
The SENCO is also responsible for overseeing the day-to-day implementation of the setting’s SEN policy. This policy is informed by the DfES Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice (2015) which sets out the legal responsibilities that Early Years settings must put into place to provide an equal opportunity for all children to learn. The SENCO monitors and reviews the policy, practice and provision, and if necessary, make adjustments.
If you have any concerns about your child’s development or would like any more information about our SEN provision please contact Heather Stead:
